Volunteer Trip Terms & Conditions

Last Updated: August 2026

Thank you for choosing to serve with Shelter Global! We are honored to have you join us as we partner with families in Honduras to build safe homes and strengthen communities. Please review the following terms before registering for a volunteer trip.

Registration

Submitting your registration does not guarantee placement on a trip. Registration is confirmed once your application has been reviewed and your registration fee or deposit has been received.

Shelter Global reserves the right to accept or decline any participant when necessary to ensure the safety and success of the trip.

Trip Costs

Your registration fee covers the expenses outlined on the trip information page.

Unless otherwise stated, participants are responsible for:

  • Airfare
  • Passport fees
  • Recommended vaccinations
  • Personal spending money
  • Travel insurance (if required)
  • Any expenses not specifically listed as included

Payment Policy

Payment deadlines will be communicated prior to departure.

Failure to make payments by the required dates may result in cancellation of your reservation.

Cancellation & Refunds

Registration fees and deposits are generally non-refundable because Shelter Global begins making reservations and purchasing services on behalf of participants.

If a participant cancels:

  • Registration fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated.
  • Additional payments may be refunded only if Shelter Global has not already incurred non-recoverable expenses.

If Shelter Global cancels a trip due to safety concerns, natural disasters, political instability, or other unforeseen circumstances, participants will be notified as soon as possible. Refunds will be provided to the extent that funds have not already been committed to non-refundable expenses.

Travel Requirements

Participants are responsible for:

  • Obtaining a valid passport.
  • Meeting all entry requirements for Honduras.
  • Following applicable travel regulations.
  • Reviewing current U.S. State Department travel advisories.

Participants acknowledge that international travel involves risks that cannot be eliminated.

Health & Safety

Participants should be physically capable of participating in construction activities and international travel.

Before departure, all volunteers must complete Shelter Global's medical and liability forms, including the Increased Risk Acknowledgment and Release Form, which outlines travel risks, insurance coverage, medical authorization, and the assumption of risks associated with participating in Honduras.

Code of Conduct

Participants agree to:

  • Treat fellow volunteers and local community members with dignity and respect.
  • Follow the instructions of Shelter Global leaders and local partners.
  • Respect Honduran customs and culture.
  • Work safely and responsibly on construction sites.
  • Refrain from illegal drug use or excessive alcohol consumption during the trip.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on Shelter Global and the communities we serve.

Shelter Global reserves the right to remove any participant from a trip whose behavior jeopardizes the safety, wellbeing, or experience of others.

Photography & Media

During the trip, Shelter Global may capture photographs and videos for educational, promotional, and fundraising purposes.

Participants will be asked to sign a separate Media Release as part of their trip documentation.

Assumption of Risk

Participants understand that international travel and construction work involve inherent risks, including travel-related hazards, construction activities, transportation, weather, illness, and other unforeseen events.

Participation is voluntary, and all participants will be required to sign Shelter Global's liability waiver prior to departure.

Changes to Itinerary

Shelter Global reserves the right to modify trip schedules, accommodations, transportation, or planned activities due to weather, safety concerns, local conditions, government restrictions, or other circumstances beyond our control.
